Dr. Malte May is a member of the Gercke Wollschläger team since November 2024. He advises and defends individuals and companies in all areas of white-collar criminal law, in particular criminal tax law.
Dr. May studied law at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster with stays abroad in India and the USA. From 2016, he gained his first practical experience in white-collar criminal law as a research assistant at a major international law firm in Berlin. During his doctorate at the Humboldt University of Berlin on a topic related to sexual criminal law, he spent research periods in Austria and Liechtenstein. He completed his legal clerkship in the district of the Berlin Court of Appeal, including a stint with Gercke Wollschläger.
Dr. May spent his first years as a lawyer in the commercial criminal law department of a leading international law firm in Düsseldorf and Berlin. Here he was able to gain extensive experience in all areas of commercial and tax criminal law, for example in defending against allegations of embezzlement in connection with works council remuneration, conducting cross-border internal investigations and preparing numerous voluntary disclosures in tax criminal law.
Dr. May is a member of the Wirtschaftsstrafrechtliche Vereinigung e.V. and the JUST forum of the DAV’s Criminal Law Working Group. As co-author of Germany’s first commentary on the Whistleblower Protection Act, which came into force in 2023, he dealt, among other things, with the relationship between the Whistleblower Protection Act and criminal law confidentiality and non-disclosure obligations.
